Yassıköy Post Office in danger of closure

Yassıköy Post Office Branch, which has been trying to provide service with only one officer for a long time, is in danger of closure.

Citizens in Yassıköy and the neighbourhood are reacting to the closure of the branch and demand that the branch, which has been serving for years, should be strengthened rather than closed.

Yassıköy Town Council emphasised that the local community should not be deprived of post office services and that at least one more officer should be employed instead of closing the post office.

The issue was discussed at the Yasykkoy Municipality Council. All council members agreed that the post office should not be closed and on the contrary, it should be strengthened with at least one officer.

The city council voted unanimously to issue a statement demanding that the post office problem be solved.

The following were demanded in the statement:

To provide affordable and reliable postal services accessible to all, to meet the needs of the residents and to recruit a sufficient number of permanent staff with at least one employee to assist the current single employee and to improve the branch.

No further redundancies, as there is only one employee in this branch. Otherwise, such a decision would also mean the automatic closure of the branch.

As it can be remembered, Rodopi MP Özgür Ferhat had opposed the closure of the Greek Post Office (ELTA) branch in Yassıköy and wanted the branch to remain open. Ferhat had brought the issue to the parliament.
