The development perspective of the Region and the issues of gender equality were discussed in Komotini.

The present and the future of the European Union in EMT was discussed on the afternoon of Friday, March 10, at the open information and discussion event with citizens on "The European Union in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace" organized in Komotini by the Office of the European Parliament and the Delegation of European Commission in Greece, with the cooperation of the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace and Europe Direct of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace.

In the introductory part of the event, the press officer of the Office of the European Parliament in Greece, Ms. Elvira Forte, the Deputy Mayor of Economic Affairs, Economic Planning, Development, Employment and Local Economic Development of the Municipality of Komotini, Mr. Dimitrios Politiadis and the professor, Mrs. Maria Michalopoulou, member of the management board of the Democritus University of Thrace and scientific manager of Europe Direct Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, addressed the EU mission today.

This was followed by the installation of the Regional Governor of Eastern Macedonia - Thrace, Mr. Christos Metios.

 Mr. Metios made an extensive reference to the co-financed NSRF projects, which were completed in recent years in the primary sector, in entrepreneurship, as well as in almost every sector of public life.

Finally, he referred to the goals that the Region has for further development in the coming years.

Afterwards, the communication manager of the Delegation of the European Commission in Greece took the floor, Mrs. Evi Georgitsi, who mentioned the contribution of the EU to the Region of Eastern Macedonia - Thrace.

Mrs. Georgitsi emphasized the importance of NSRF projects, while she also gave examples of projects in the Region, which, although not widely known, are necessary, as they have an important environmental mark.

Mrs. Georgitsi presented the European networks in the region, such as the European Information Center Europe Direct, the Eurodesk office, Euraxess, which is also a network of the Democritus University of Thrace, the Enterprise Europe Network, etc.

In the last part of the event, a discussion was held on the principle of Gender Equality in the EU with the participation of the Professor of Social Work in the Department of Social Administration and Political Science of the Democritus University of Thrace, Mr. Sevasti Hatzifotiou, the Co-Manager of UNSDSN Greece, Dr. Antonios Alevizos and the psychologist at the Hostel for battered women of the Municipality of Komotini, Mr. Christos Serbezis.

 The discussion was moderated by the journalist, Mr. Niki Papazoglou.

The event was also attended by the Rector of the Democritus University of Thrace, Mr. Fotis Maris, professors of the Democritus University of Thrace, as well as many students.
