Western Thrace Turks cite Poland's recognition of Greek Minority
Representatives of the Turkish community in Western Thrace have criticized Greece's minority policies after Poland officially recognized the country's Greek community as its tenth national minority.
In a statement, the Federation of Western Thrace Turks in Europe (ABTTF) welcomed the decision signed by Polish President Karol Nawrocki granting national minority status to the Greek community in Poland and providing guarantees related to cultural, educational and linguistic rights.
The federation described the move as a positive example of minority rights protection in Europe and contrasted it with what it said were longstanding challenges faced by the Turkish Minority of Western Thrace regarding identity recognition, association rights and minority protections.
ABTTF argued that Poland's decision demonstrated a commitment to democratic principles and minority rights and called on Greece to show greater respect for the identity and fundamental rights of the Turkish Minority of Western Thrace.
