Western Thrace Turkish Muftis meet President Erdoğan during Ankara Iftar Program
Mustafa Trampa, Chairman of the Western Thrace Turkish Minority Advisory Board and Mufti of İskeçe, along with İbrahim Şerif, Mufti of Komotini, attended the 17th Traditional Iftar Program for Ambassadors and Diplomatic Mission Representatives in Ankara on March 9, 2026.
The event was hosted at the Justice and Development Party (AKP) Headquarters and brought together numerous diplomats and invited guests from across the globe.
Meeting with Turkish Officials
During the program, Muftis Trampa and Şerif had the opportunity to meet with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, discussing matters of interest to the Western Thrace Turkish community.
Mufti Trampa shared his reflections on social media:
"Today, at the 17th Traditional Iftar Program with Ambassadors and diplomatic mission representatives at the AK Party Headquarters in Ankara, I attended together with Mufti İbrahim Şerif. We had the opportunity to meet with the President of the Republic of Turkey, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan. We are grateful for their hospitality."
Strengthening Diplomatic and Community Ties
The annual iftar program is a significant gathering that brings together diplomatic representatives and community leaders from various countries, providing an opportunity to reinforce relationships and discuss issues affecting minority communities, including the Western Thrace Turks.
The participation of the muftis highlighted the ongoing engagement of the Western Thrace Turkish minority with Türkiye’s official institutions and its continued efforts to maintain strong cultural and religious ties.
