Western Thrace Turkish Community commemorates educator and journalist Mehmet Hilmi
The memorial, organized by the İskeçe Turkish Union (ITB), took place at Mehmet Hilmi's gravesite in the Lower Neighborhood Cemetery. Community representatives, elected officials and civil society leaders attended the ceremony to pay tribute to one of the founding figures of the association.
Among those present were ITB President Kerem Abdurahimoğlu, Mufti of İskeçe Mustafa Trampa, Member of Parliament Hüseyin Zeybek, Friendship Equality Peace (FEP) Party Chair Çiğdem Asafoğlu and representatives of minority institutions.
Speakers highlighted Mehmet Hilmi's contributions to education, journalism and the struggle for the rights of the Turkish community in Western Thrace. Organizers said his intellectual legacy and commitment to public service continue to inspire future generations.
