Western Thrace Fenerbahce Association "closure" case postponed
The “closure” case against the Western Thrace Fenerbahce Association, which was established with the approval of the official court in Komotini and continues its activities, has been postponed.
The case, which was held at the Komotini Single Judge Civil Court of First Instance today (22 March 2023) at 09.30, was adjourned to 14 June 2023 by the judge in order to collect sufficient evidence.
THE PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE REQUESTED THE CLOSING OF THE ASSOCIATION
As it will be remembered, the Rhodope prosecutor's office claimed that the name of the Western Thrace Fenerbahce Association and its members were “Turkish citizen”s or that it could create the impression that there was an ethnic Turkish minority in the region (in the Rhodope province).
The prosecutor's office claimed that the name of the association was against the law, and demanded the cancellation of the registration of the association, arguing that the court that registered the association of the Western Thrace Fenerbahce Association had made an erroneous decision.
