Waste incineration plant planned for Rhodope or İskeçe
The Ministry of Environment and Energy has unveiled plans to build six waste incineration plants across the country, one of which is proposed for construction in either Rhodope or İskeçe.
According to the draft plan, now open for public consultation, the selected plant in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace will process waste collected from municipalities across the region.
Under the proposal, the facilities will incinerate 1.3 million tons of waste annually to generate energy, while also supplying 150,000 tons of high-quality waste material to the cement industry.
The ministry aims, by 2030, to shift from landfill disposal to energy recovery, reduce carbon emissions, produce both electricity and heat, create jobs, and improve environmental indicators.
