Unforgettable concert at the Ancient Theater of Maroneia
A mesmerizing string concert took place on the evening of Tuesday, July 9, at the Ancient Theater of Maroneia, organized in collaboration between the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace and the Austrian Embassy in Athens.
Part of the 10th anniversary of the Greek-Austrian Music Summer initiative, the event featured a performance by the “Strings in Motion” Academy. More than 550 people attended the concert, which captivated the audience with its impressive repertoire and the outstanding performances of young musicians from Central Europe, Ukraine, the Far East, and Greece.
Violinist and educator Christos Kanetis served as the artistic director of the event.
Opening speeches were delivered by Kostas Kacimigas, member of the Komotini Music Mansion Administrative Committee, and Austria’s Ambassador to Athens, Gerda Vogl.
Distinguished guests included Türkiye’s Consul General in Gümülcine, Aykut Ünal, and his wife İlayda Ünal; Deputy Regional Governor of Rhodope Manolis Tapakas; Mayor of Komotini Yannis Garanis; and Mayor of Maroneia-Şapçı Apostolos Ioannou.
The program featured works by Grieg, Haydn, Dragatakis, Skalkottas, Tzanakos, Tchaikovsky, and Weber, and concluded with a waltz by Austrian composer Johann Strauss.
The event, which was free to attend, received enthusiastic acclaim from the audience.
