Traffic suspended on Gümülcine–Border vertical axis due to roadworks
Authorities have announced the suspension of traffic on a key section of the vertical axis connecting Gümülcine to the Greek–Bulgarian border due to ongoing construction works.
According to the Rodopi Police Directorate, vehicle circulation has been halted in both directions from kilometer marker 4.400 (Kalchas Interchange) to kilometer marker 18.100 (Nymfaia Interchange). The measure took effect on February 24, 2026, at 15:00 local time and will remain in place until further notice.
The closure affects the vertical axis linking Komotini to the Greek–Bulgarian border, a strategic route for regional transport and cross-border movement.
Detour Routes Announced
During the temporary traffic arrangements, all vehicles will be diverted via the provincial road network, following this route:
Kalchas Interchange – Karydia Interchange – Pandroso settlement – Nymfaia Interchange, and vice versa.
Drivers are advised to comply with traffic signage and follow instructions issued by local authorities to ensure safety and minimize disruption.
Officials have not specified a completion timeline for the works but stated that updates will be provided as necessary.
