Topsidis meets with President Tasoulas
The Governor of the Eastern Macedonia and Thrace (EMT) Region, Christodoulos Topsidis, paid an official visit to President Konstantinos Tasoulas, during which he shared the region’s development goals and future perspectives.
Governor Topsidis was accompanied by Theodoros Markopoulos, Deputy Regional Governor responsible for the Kavala Regional Unit. The meeting took place on Tuesday, 16 December, at the Presidential Palace.
During the meeting, Topsidis and Markopoulos thanked President Tasoulas for his support of the scientific conference recently organized by the regional administration and the Kavala Regional Unit, entitled “Kavala as a Byzantine City: Christoupolis – In the Footsteps of the Byzantine Fortress of Christoupolis.”
President Tasoulas was presented with conference materials, as well as the book “The Epistle of Saint Paul to the Philippians: Through the Writings of Commentators,” published by the Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Region in cooperation with the Kavala Regional Unit. In addition, Topsidis gifted the President a 16th-century engraving of Kavala, bearing a personal dedication.
During the discussion, Topsidis briefed President Tasoulas on the development challenges facing the Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Region and its future outlook. Particular emphasis was placed on a proposal formally submitted to Raffaele Fitto, European Commissioner for Regional Policy.
The proposal aims to increase funding under the new European Social Cohesion Pact for the European Union’s eastern border regions that share boundaries with third countries, within the broader framework of strengthening European security.
President Tasoulas expressed his intention to visit the Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Region and accepted an invitation to attend the celebrations marking Kavala’s liberation anniversary on 29 June 2026, coinciding with the Feast Day of Saints Peter and Paul.
