Topsidis announces compensation for livestock farmers

Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Regional Governor Christodoulos Topsidis has announced that livestock farmers in the Rhodope and Evros regions, whose animals were culled due to an outbreak of lumpy skin disease, will receive compensation.

“This compensation will be provided without requiring tax or insurance documentation from the farmers,” Topsidis stated, emphasizing that this is a significant victory for the regional administration’s efforts to offer maximum financial support to affected livestock farmers.

He further explained that the decision aligns with the government’s post-wildfire support measures and aims to quickly mitigate losses, prevent the abandonment of livestock farming, and address the social impact in rural areas.

“We have maintained ongoing dialogue with local Farmer and Livestock Breeders Associations and submitted crucial proposals to the Ministry of Agriculture to facilitate compensation. The ministry’s political commitment has been instrumental in ensuring timely payments to all eligible recipients,” Topsidis said.

The governor stressed that this streamlined compensation process should apply across all regional units in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, providing essential support to livestock farmers throughout the area.

He reaffirmed the regional administration’s dedication to addressing challenges in the agriculture, livestock, and broader primary sectors.
