Thrace remains without a minister in the government reshuffle

Despite expectations and speculation, none of the five New Democracy (ND) MPs from Thrace secured a ministerial position in the newly announced government lineup.
Missed Opportunities for Thrace’s MPs
🔹 In recent days, there were widespread reports that Rodopi MP Evripidis Stylianidis was a strong contender for a ministerial post.
🔹 Additionally, Evros MPs Christos Dermetzopoulos and Tasos Dimoschakis were rumored to be in consideration for deputy minister positions.
🔹 However, no similar speculation had surrounded Xanthi MP Spyros Tsilingiris.
The Lone Thracian in Mitsotakis’ Governments
The only Thracian MP to have served in a Mitsotakis administration remains Stavros Keletsis (Evros MP), who was Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Food from June 2023 to June 2024, overseeing livestock and fisheries.
Stylianidis: The Only Thracian with Extensive Ministerial Experience
Rodopi MP Evripidis Stylianidis has a long history in key government roles:
- Minister of Transport & Communications (2009)
- Minister of Education (2007-2009)
- Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs (2004-2007)
- Minister of Interior under Antonis Samaras (2012-2013)
A Government Without Strong Representation from Northeastern Greece
The reshuffled government now includes over 60 officials, but only one MP from Northeastern Greece (from Serres to Evros) has been appointed:
✅ Tasos Chatzivasileiou (Serres MP), who remains Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.
This lack of representation for Thrace in the new government lineup raises concerns about the region’s political influence at the national level.
