Thousands gather for Seçek Oil Wrestling and Cultural Events
The event began on August 2, 2024, with a Mevlid-i Şerif at Mehrikoz Mosque, followed by Friday prayers. The day continued with communal meals provided by the event sponsor, Ali Topal from Salıncak village, and concluded with a cooking competition and tea night.
On August 3, 2024, the day started with a greeting from Seçek Ağa Ali Topal. Activities included the Mehmet Hilmi Field Run, sack races, tug-of-war, and local wrestling matches. Turkish singer Rabia Tuçbilek entertained the crowd in the evening.
The final day, August 4, 2024, featured a grand procession with protocol members, including Türkiye’s Consul General in Komotini, Aykut Ünal, and his wife. After speeches emphasizing unity and tradition, the program included folk dances by the Komotini Turkish Youth Association and the Xanthi Turkish Union, followed by oil wrestling matches with participants from Greece, Türkiye, and Bulgaria.
The event concluded with a concert by local music group GRUP EXTRA, celebrating the success of the traditional Seçek Oil Wrestling and Cultural Events.
