The late Mufti Ahmet Mete commemorated with mercy on the second anniversary of his death
The Muftiate of Xanthi organised a commemoration ceremony for Ahmet Mete at his grave on Sunday, 14 July. The commemoration program for the late Mufti started with the recitation of the Holy Quran by the religious officials of the Directorate of Religious Affairs of Turkey. After the recitation of the Holy Qur'an, the prayer of the hatims recited was made by Dr. Muhammed Masum Vanlıoğlu, one of the preachers of the Presidency of Religious Affairs of Türkiye. Mustafa Trampa, Mufti of Xanthi, who took the floor after the prayer, stated that they worked together with the late Mufti Mete for many years and that he left many works to this community.
Then the President of Xanthi Turkish Union Ozan Ahmetoğlu reminded the crowd at the funeral of Mufti Mete and stated that Xanthi has never seen such a crowd at a funeral ceremony and stated that Mete was a leader and loved by the community.
Speaking at the ceremony, FEP Party President Çiğdem Asafoğlu stated that Mufti Ahmet Mete won the love of everyone with his courage and unique personality. Rodopi MP Özgür Ferhat stated that he had the opportunity to get to know Ahmet Mete closely and that his advice was always useful to him. Xanthi MP Hüseyin Zeybek reminded that they had worked closely with Mufti Mete for a long time and said: "He was a person before he was a mufti. Two years have passed since his death, but this period seems much longer to me. Our mufti was an important person with his courage and foresight. He was an important leader. He was one of the people whose void will be filled very difficult. We miss him." Lastly, the Consul General of Turkey in Komotini, Aykut Ünal took the floor at the commemoration programme. Consul General Ünal stated that he did not know Ahmet Mete closely but he knew him as a diplomat and learnt a lot about him in Western Thrace. Consul General Ünal stated that Ahmet Mete was not only a mufti but also an important person of struggle who mobilised the community and was also a symbol. Consul General Ünal concluded his words by stating that they once again commemorate Mufti Mete with mercy and respect on the anniversary of his death.
The ceremony organised for the late Mufti Ahmet Mete was also attended by Fatih İsmailko and Salih Yörük, Eastern Macedonia - Thrace Region Assembly Members Fatih İsmailko and Salih Yörük, President of Komotini Turkish Youth Union Sedat Hasan, President of BAKEŞ Hüseyin Bostancı, President of Western Thrace Turkish Teachers Union Hasan Boşnak, President of Western Thrace Turks Solidarity Association Bursa Branch Hasan Karaömer, religious officials of the Muftiate of Xanthi, local administrators and many cognates.
Sherbet, candlemark bagels and Turkish delight were offered to the participants by the family of Ahmet Mete. In Yassıören, the village where Mufti Mete was born, a commemoration programme was also organised on Saturday 13 July with a Mevlid-i Şerif read by the Yassıören Association.
