The fire in the Rhodope region cannot be extinguished for days
The forest fire that broke out days ago on Kartal Mountain area in the Iasmos (Yassıköy) region of Rhodope province has still not been extinguished.
The fire, which started in a very difficult part of the mountain where the firefighters could not intervene from the land, could not be brought under control even though days passed and spread to a wider area.
Airborne interventions have not yet yielded results. At the foot of the mountain, the fire still continues at the point of difference.
Making a statement on the subject on his social media account, Rhodope State Vice President Nikos Çalikidis stated that the work continues uninterruptedly to control the fire in Kartal Mountain, but the work continues with difficulty due to the difficult access to the region.
Çalikidis said that more than 100 firefighters participated in the extinguishing efforts, and since Saturday, two PZLs, 2 Canadairs, and a helicopter have responded to the fire from the air.
On Sunday, he stated that the military Chinook type aircraft also participated in the firefighting efforts.
