"The draft of the decree cannot be accepted"
The Western Thrace Turkish Minority Advisory Board held a meeting on Sunday, September 2 to discuss the draft of Presidential Decree prepared for Muftis. After the meeting attended also by the MPs of the Turkish Minority, it was stated that the said draft was unacceptable and seen by the Advisory Board as frustration.
The announcement sent by the Turkish Minority Advisory Board of Western Thrace is as follows:
ANNOUNCEMENT
On the meeting of the Advisory Board with the participation of our MPs on Sunday, 2 September 2018, all aspects of the draft Presidential Decree prepared for the Muftis, which is closely related to our minority, were discussed.
The draft of the decree, which shaped the muftis’ judicial powers, the organizational chart and the staffs from the beginning, was described as disappointment by the Board.
This text, which is far from responding to the expectations and demands of the minority, the mufti institution has been converted to dysfunctional and the control seems to have been completely taken in order to create a mufti institution affiliated to the Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Ministry of National Education. The representatives of all the relevant institutions and organizations participating in the meeting emphasized that the draft law of our deputies was unacceptable.
Our Board is in the opinion that all of the necessary initiatives must be carried out to ensure that our minority's acquired rights guaranteed by the international documents and the law are protected. We believe that as a result of this final decree we must be one voice, one punch, and we should act in unity against the attempt of the Muftis to be taken from the hands of our minority and become an ordinary state institution. The following decisions were taken unanimously in this framework:
- Visiting the National Education Minister Gavroglou by our official institutions and organizations along with the MPs and forwarding our solution proposals to him
- To publicly dissent the opposing views by all Minority institutions and organizations regarding the subject matter
- All minority members to transmit their requests and expectations via the related website
Publicly announced
Sincerely,
BTTADK (Western Thrace Turkish Minority Advisory Board)
