On May 16, 2025, the Municipality of Myki successfully carried out the civil protection tabletop exercise codenamed “MYKI 2025”, aimed at enhancing preparedness and coordination among local authorities ahead of the 2025 wildfire season. The exercise took place in the municipal council chamber and was organized under the initiative of the Deputy Mayor for Civil Protection, Mr. Mithat Kambur.

In his official statement, Mr. Kampour emphasized the importance of readiness in responding effectively to emergencies caused by forest fires. The goal of the exercise was to bring together all relevant stakeholders for a coordinated response simulation at the local level.

Participating in the exercise were representatives from:

  • Echinos Police Department
  • Xanthi Fire Department
  • XXV Armored Brigade
  • Echinos National Guard Battalion
  • Xanthi Forest Service
  • Civil Protection Department of Xanthi
  • Echinos Health Center
  • National Emergency Aid Center (EKAV)
  • Public Power Corporation (DEDDIE) Xanthi
  • Directorate of Secondary Education of Xanthi
  • Deputy Mayors of the Municipality of Myki
  • Presidents of the Local Communities of Myki and Kotyli
  • Hellenic Rescue Team – Xanthi Branch

The exercise served as a critical platform for testing communication protocols, clarifying roles and responsibilities, and identifying potential areas for improvement in inter-agency collaboration. Local authorities stressed the continued need for vigilance and community engagement as wildfire risks increase with the onset of the dry season
