Serious losses for livestock farmers in Xanthi due to sheep and goat pox

The livestock farmers of Xanthi are facing severe economic losses due to the outbreak of sheep and goat pox, raising urgent concerns. Burhan Baran, a Member of Parliament, expressed his deep worry in a parliamentary question regarding the situation, calling for immediate support from the Ministry of Rural Development. The damage to the livestock sector in the area is particularly severe, with the loss of a significant portion of livestock pushing many farmers into financial distress.

According to Baran, livestock farming is a key pillar of the local economy in the municipality of Topir and in Xanthi in general. The affected farmers are unable to replenish their lost livestock and are demanding immediate compensation. "The situation requires immediate action to support the professionals facing these unprecedented conditions," Baran emphasized, highlighting the gravity of the issue through a resolution issued by the Topiros Municipal Council.

On their part, the livestock farmers are calling on the Ministry of Rural Development to take substantial measures for immediate compensation and to provide support, ensuring the survival of their businesses and the smooth operation of the local livestock sector.

Minister of Rural Development Konstantinos Tsiaras is called upon to respond regarding the measures the Ministry plans to take to restore the lost income of the farmers and prevent further worsening of the situation.
