Seçek Association holds 2026 financial congress in Mehrikoz
During the meeting, members reviewed the association’s financial status and exchanged views on both ongoing and planned cultural activities aimed at preserving the region’s rich heritage.
Dates Announced for the 672nd Historic Seçek Oil Wrestling Festival
One of the key decisions taken at the congress was to hold the 672nd Historic Seçek Oil Wrestling and Cultural Events on July 31 and August 1–2, 2026. The annual festival is regarded as one of the oldest and most significant cultural traditions of Western Thrace.
Broad Participation from Community Leaders
The congress was attended by several prominent figures, including:
- Hasan Apti, Ahmet Paşa, and Apti Pencal, spiritual leaders (Postnişins) of the Seyyid Ali Sultan Dergah
- Ahmet Osman Pehlivan, Advisor to the Governor of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace
- Ali Kırmıcı, Municipal Council Member of the Mehrikoz district
- Bilal Koçancı, Headman of Mehrikoz
- Mehmet Bostancı, Headman of Küçük Derbent
- Mehmet Çilingir, Municipal Council Member of Sofulu
- Abdurrahim Kuru, religious official

Participants emphasized that the Seçek Oil Wrestling Festival continues to play a vital role in preserving the region’s cultural identity and collective memory. As in previous years, organizers aim to host the 2026 events with broad participation from both local communities and visitors.
