Prominent figures in Western Thrace condemned destruction of Ottoman-era Turkish cemeteries for building a football pitch

Özgür Ferhat, Deputy Chairman of SYRIZA Rhodope Provincial Organization criticized Greece’s anti-democratic attitude towards cultural diversity saying “We, as advocates of equality, human and minority rights, mutual respect, love and tolerance in multicultural societies, in our country Greece, which is considered the cradle of democracy, and in our region. We demand that action be taken against those who ordered this destruction and executed the order.”

Eastern Macedonia-Thrace Region Sports - Lifelong Learning Consultant Ahmet İbram condemned the destruction of the Ottoman-era Turkish cemetery in Xanthi. “Building a playground on a cemetery is both morally and conscientiously wrong,” he said.

Kozlukebir Mayor Rıdvan Ahmet condemned his counterpart saying that the history and culture.

Bulustra (Avdira) Municipality council member Lüftü Çavuşoğlu said that the municipality's intervention in the cemetery in Horozlu was very wrong and deeply upset the entire minority community.

Another mayor Önder Mümin of the Yassıköy (Iasmos) Municipality invited his counterpart, the Mayor of Bulustra, to rectify this insult to common sense and the religion of Islam as soon as possible.
