Paralympic Education Park approved for Gümülcine under EU-Funded Regional Development Program
KOMOTINI, Greece — The establishment of a Paralympic Education Park in Komotini has been officially included in the “Eastern Macedonia and Thrace 2021–2027” regional development program following a decision signed by Regional Governor Christodoulos Topsidis.
The project falls under the “Social Inclusion and Poverty Reduction” priority axis and has a total budget of €200,437.50. It will be implemented by the Rhodope Association of People with Disabilities and Friends “Perpato.”
The park is planned to operate within an accessible outdoor sports area provided by the Municipality of Komotini, creating a shared space where both disabled and non-disabled individuals can participate in sports and educational activities.
Facilities will include dedicated areas for a range of Paralympic sports such as wheelchair basketball, boccia, goalball, sitting volleyball, wheelchair fencing, and Paralympic weightlifting (bench press).
Officials stated that the project is co-financed by the European Social Fund, highlighting its alignment with broader European goals on inclusion and accessibility in sports and public life.
The initiative is expected to strengthen social integration and expand access to adaptive sports infrastructure in the region.
