Ongoing flood protection efforts in Rhodope – Stream cleaning in Balabanköy
Flood prevention works are in full progress across the Regional Unit of Rhodope, carried out by the Directorate of Technical Works of the Regional Authority. These projects are considered crucial for strengthening the flood protection of local settlements.
Currently, work is underway to clean the stream in the settlement of Balabanköy (Dialampi), Municipality of Yassıköy—an intervention that, according to officials, has never before been carried out in this particular stream.
In a public statement, Deputy Regional Governor of Rodopi Manolis Tapatzas emphasized that the effort will continue, noting:
“The primary concern of the EMT Regional Administration and Governor Christodoulos Topsidis is to restore, in the best possible way, the functionality of existing flood-protection works, many of which have either never been maintained or not been serviced for decades.”
