New success for İskeçe Turkish Minority schools in chess tournaments
Students from İskeçe Turkish Minority Primary School and İskeçe Minority Middle & High School achieved notable results in the İskeçe Inter-School Chess Tournament held on 22–23 November.
In the primary school category, Alperen Şargo secured first place, while in the middle school category, Halil Kaan Telatoğlu won second place.
Under the guidance of teacher Nurgül Durmaz Aydemir, students from the İskeçe Turkish Minority Primary School competed on Sunday, 23 November, at the Filipos Amiridis Indoor Sports Hall. The tournament was held over seven rounds. Second-grade student Alperen Şargo won all rounds in the individual category, earning first place and the championship trophy. Another second-grade student, Hasan Talha Dudo, finished fourth, qualifying to represent İskeçe at the regional tournament scheduled for March next year.
Other participating students from the İskeçe Turkish Minority Primary School included Umut Mustafa İmam, Aras Kıyıcı, İbrahim Çil, Efe Asaf İmamoğlu, and Furkan Ahmet Hacıimam. The School Association and School Board congratulated all participating students and thanked the teachers for their efforts.
On Saturday, 22 November, middle and high school students competed in their respective categories. Halil Kaan Telatoğlu, a 3rd-grade middle school student at the İskeçe Turkish Minority Middle School, earned second place in the individual category. Hasibe Elif Osmanoğlu, Ravza Giritli, Erva Rana İmamoğlu, Mehmet Ege Mümin, and Hasan Hacıimam also represented the school.
Both the School Board and the Parent–Teacher Association congratulated all students who received rankings and thanked the teachers for their contributions.
The school’s chess team had also secured second place in the team tournament held last week.
These achievements by students of the İskeçe Turkish Minority community were met with great joy both within the schools and in the wider community.
