The Decentralized Administration of Macedonia and Thrace has officially launched its new office in Gümülcine, a move expected to generate significant savings for the Greek state through the utilization of public property.

The announcement was made by Secretary of the Decentralized Administration, Dimitris Galamatis, who noted that the first day of operations at the new office included working meetings with administration officials.

The office is now housed within the Komotini Government Building, which serves as the second administrative headquarters of the Decentralized Administration of Macedonia and Thrace.

According to Galamatis, since 2011 the Secretary’s office in Gümülcine had operated from rented premises at a monthly cost of approximately €2,000. With the relocation completed, those rental expenses have been entirely eliminated.

“From today, this cost is reduced to zero,” Galamatis stated, emphasizing that the new facilities have been fully prepared and are now operational.

He described the relocation as a permanent measure that will deliver substantial savings for the Greek public sector while also sending a strong message about the effective use of state-owned assets and efforts to reduce public spending.

Galamatis also highlighted the cooperation between the Decentralized Administration and the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace. He publicly thanked Regional Governor Christodoulos Topsidis for facilitating the allocation of office space within the government building.

The secretary said the initiative has strengthened cooperation between central administration and local government, adding that such partnerships should continue to be developed for the benefit of citizens and the region.
