Mustafçova Municipality People's Movement List makes statement!

Cemil Kabza, President of Mustafçova Municipality People's Movement List, made a written statement regarding the developments that took place during the Mustafçova Municipality ordinary council meeting held on Wednesday, 28 August.

Stating that they regret the events that took place in the statement, Kabza emphasised that the government should be open to all kinds of criticism except for discourses that can be considered ‘insulting’.

Kabza continued his statement as follows: ‘We would like to express that we have witnessed for the first time that the verbal duel between the main opposition and the government has reached the point of tension and even a brawl attempt. Unfortunately, our calls for restraint did not yield any results in the meeting, and the increasing tension, the unpleasant words uttered, led to the attempt of a brawl. As a result of this, Ahmet Kopel, the former District Director of Şahin, who came to watch the council meeting, which was open to the public, had to be hospitalised by ambulance. We wish Ahmet Kopel, who has been discharged and is in good health, a speedy recovery.’

Reminding that they made a proposal to postpone the meeting after the tension, Kabza continued his statement as follows:

‘After this unpleasant incident, the council meeting was suspended and our proposal that the meeting should not continue under these conditions and be postponed to a later date was not accepted by the mayor and the chairman of the council.

Dear municipality residents!

The assembly is the highest decision-making authority of the municipality.

The assembly is not a place where personal problems are discussed.

The assembly is a place where social problems are discussed, solution proposals are discussed, criticisms and proposals are made.

The councillors in the assembly represent thousands of municipality residents.

Within the framework of the rules in the assembly, each member has the right to freely express his/her thoughts, proposals and criticisms.

No one should feel uncomfortable about the wrongs, injustices and all kinds of actions that may cause political abuse.

The government should also be open to all kinds of criticism except for discourses that can be considered ‘insulting’.

The parliament has a working procedure and manners. The internal regulations clearly state how the parliament will work.

I would like to believe that the parliamentary speaker Mr Hasan Adem, who is a lawyer, and the mayor Mr Ahmet Kurt, who is a lawyer, are the ones who know the bylaws of the parliament best.

Unfortunately, we are witnessing that the bylaws of the assembly have not been implemented so far.

We would like to renew here once again our proposal that we make almost every meeting to implement the bylaws of the parliament.

If we remember correctly, the promise to broadcast the council meetings live was among the promises of the current government.

Dear municipality administration and honourable council president!

We invite you to fulfil your promise to broadcast the council meetings live.

We hope that the next municipal council meetings will be held in accordance with the bylaws, without violating the rules of political ethics, without taking away anyone's right to speak, within the framework of mutual respect, in a manner befitting a modern society, and we convey our respect and love to all of you.’a
