The Municipality of Gümülcine actively took part in the Kick-Off Meeting of the new URBACT Transfer Networks under the European Urban Initiative, held on 3–4 December 2025 in Paris.

The network “CALL – Accessible City for ALL”, led by the Municipality of Gümülcine as the Lead Partner, brings together partner municipalities from across Europe, including Dubrovnik (Croatia), San Lucido (Italy), Jarosław (Poland), Associação Pentágono Urbano (Portugal), Galway (Ireland), Bratislava (Slovakia), and Zrenjanin (Serbia). The initiative aims to transfer Komotini’s good accessibility practices to partner cities, contributing to the creation of barrier-free urban environments—whether physical, social, or digital. The network is supported by URBACT Lead Expert Io Chatzivaryti.

The project focuses on shaping comprehensive accessibility policies, strengthening participatory planning, and developing sustainable solutions that promote equal access for all citizens.

First Day of the Meeting

The opening day centered on introductions among representatives of the new URBACT Transfer Networks and a presentation of the methodology for transferring good practices. Special emphasis was placed on the Transferability Study, through which participating cities will map their needs, capacities, and characteristics to effectively adapt the practices shared by Gümülcine.

The day continued with an in-depth discussion on the design and purpose of Transnational Meetings, as well as preparation for the administrative and communication tasks required during the first phase of the project.

Second Day of the Meeting

On the second day, participants were briefed on the crucial role of URBACT Local Groups, key structures that ensure local participation and cooperation. Parallel sessions tailored to the networks’ responsibilities covered administrative management, documentation procedures, and financial monitoring.

The programme concluded with a specialized workshop on writing articles and communication material, delivered by The Guardian journalist Christopher Michael.

Gümülcine’s Strategic Commitment

The Municipality of Gümülcine continues to strategically support accessibility and social cohesion, undertaking a leading role in this new European initiative aimed at building inclusive cities with equal opportunities for all.
