Independent MP Burhan Baran: The closure of associations because of their names is a blow to the freedom of democratic societies.
MP Baran stated that the closure of associations because of their names is a blow to the freedom of modern democratic societies.
Burhan Baran made the following statement on the subject:
"Who or whom can be disturbed by the phrase 'Western Thrace' in the name of an association. With the decision taken by the Rodopi Civil Court of First Instance on 28 May 2024, it was decided to close the Western Thrace Fenerbahce Sports and Culture Association. I strongly condemn this decision taken on the grounds that it is against the national interests of Greece.
The closure of associations because of their names is a blow to the freedom of contemporary democratic societies and is contrary to the principles of the rule of law."
