Western Thrace Imam-Hatip High School Graduates Association (BİHLİMDER) pointed out the importance of memory in the cemeteries. “Our cemeteries are our badge of identity, historical memory,” said NGO in their statement.

Another NGO Western Thrace Turkish Teachers Association (BTTÖB) condemned the opportunism of the local government. “It seems that the municipality administrators, who turned our heirloom cemetery into a trophy by taking advantage of an opportunity, considered all kinds of savings on it, regardless of the spirituality of this place,” stated Teachers Association.

As a result of the attack and destruction, which is a shame for humanity, our historical cemetery was tried to be destroyed,” stressing the traumatic historical consciousness of Greece.
