Komotini candidate for National Youth Capital 2024
The administration of the Municipality of Komotini, with the decision of the municipal council and with the great contribution of the municipal Youth and Volunteering Centre "exagono", applied for the city of Komotini to become the National Youth Capital in 2024.
In a statement, the Municipality of Komotini said that the application for the recognition of Komotini as the Youth Capital in 2024 was made in accordance with the criteria set by the General Secretariat for Vocational Education, Lifelong Learning and Youth of the Ministry of Education and Religion, the Central Union of Municipalities of Greece and the Greek Community for Local Development and Self-Government.
Among the objectives of the Municipality of Komotini with this application are;
To promote the participation of young people in the political, social, economic and cultural life of the country, by providing them with appropriate support through a programme of action and intervention, enabling them to become active citizens and contribute to aspects of city life through their significant participation.
In addition, to empower young people and contribute to the integration of particularly vulnerable young people.
One of the other objectives is to promote the municipality at national and European level, since through the proposed actions co-operation will be sought both at local, national and European level.
To highlight the local peculiarities of Komotini, its culture, history, multiculturalism, accessibility, as well as the elements that are a cornerstone for the region.
To make the municipality competitive in order to increase the chances of approval of subsidies and grants through European programmes for youth (Erasmus+, Erasmus+Youth, CERV, European Solidarity Corps) and various institutions (Bodossaki, Stavros Niarhos) etc.
Among the objectives is to make the municipality more attractive in terms of tourism seminars.
And finally, to place the Municipality of Komotini once again on the map with the Greek Municipalities that have youth issues on their agenda and to keep it there, as well as to contribute to the creation of the local Youth Strategy, creating a city that is friendly and in line with the needs of young people.
The statement reminded that the Municipality of Komotini, with the support of the Youth and Volunteering Centre "exagono", successfully submitted the nomination to the European Youth Forum.
The 2024 National Youth Capital Commission will announce the shortlisted municipalities on Friday 27 October 2023 and in mid-December 2023, the 2024 National Youth Capital will be announced at a ceremony.
