Halil Salih (Haki), a prominent figure of the Western Thrace Turkish press and a journalist, teacher, poet and writer, was laid to rest on Thursday, Jan. 8.
Journalist Halil Haki laid to rest

Haki’s funeral was held after the afternoon prayer, with the cortege departing from his home in Gümülcine. During the ceremony, his biography was read by Aydın Ahmet, President of the Western Thrace Turkish Teachers’ Union.

Following the funeral prayer, Halil Salih (Haki) was buried at the cemetery of Gebecili village, which is part of the Iasmos (Yassıköy) Municipality.

Born in 1939 in Gebecili village, Halil Haki made significant contributions to the Western Thrace Turkish community throughout his life as a journalist, teacher, poet and author. Through his writings and works, he enriched the cultural and intellectual life of the community and remained actively involved in the Western Thrace Turkish press for many years.

The funeral ceremony was attended by Mufti of Gümülcine İbrahim Şerif, Mayor of Yassıköy Caner İmam, former MP Ahmet Hacıosman, President of the Western Thrace Turkish Teachers’ Union Aydın Ahmet, as well as members of the late Haki’s family, relatives and many mourners.
