The Book Reading Club operating under the İskeçe Mufti Office organized a special event titled “Book and Women” on the evening of February 13 in İskeçe. The gathering took place at the Royal Palace event hall in the Yaka district, drawing strong participation from members of the local community.

Among those in attendance were İlayda Ünal, spouse of Türkiye’s Consul General in Komotini Aykut Unal; Nadire Ömer Trampa, spouse of İskeçe Mufti Mustafa Trampa; Deputy Mufti Fatma Imam; Chairwoman of the Friendship Equality Peace Party Çiğdem Asafoğlu; and representatives of civil society organizations, along with numerous women participants.

The program began with a presentation by religious official Emine Bozoğlu. In his opening remarks, Mufti Mustafa Trampa highlighted the importance of reading in personal development, describing it as a natural and horizon-expanding human activity. He noted that the Book Reading Club, which began with just five or six participants, has grown significantly and now approaches 300 members.

Promoting Cultural Awareness

A video presentation showcased the club’s activities to date. Emine Hüseyin Palazlı later provided information about reading initiatives conducted not only in İskeçe but also in the villages of Paşevik, Gökçepınar, Şahin, and Ketenlik.

Palazlı stressed the role of reading in strengthening language, religious, and historical awareness, emphasizing the importance of preserving and better understanding the historical and cultural heritage of the Western Thrace Muslim Turkish Minority. She underlined that the establishment of book clubs aims to foster greater social awareness within the community.

During the event, plaques were awarded to club members in recognition of their contributions. In her closing remarks, İlayda Ünal emphasized the importance of cultivating reading habits and thanked the organizers and participants.
