Independent Member of the Greek Parliament Baran Burhan has been acquitted in a case concerning his former professional activities, specifically the alleged provision of pharmaceutical products without meeting the legally required conditions.

The ruling concludes a prolonged legal process that had significant political implications for the MP.

Political Background of the Case

The case had initially led to Burhan’s removal from the parliamentary group of PASOK – Movement for Change by party leader Nikos Androulakis, pending the final judicial decision.

At the time, the party emphasized that the measure would remain in place until the case reached a definitive conclusion.

“Justice Has Arrived,” Says Burhan

In a statement published on his personal blog following the verdict, Burhan described the decision as a personal vindication after years of legal struggle.

“After many years of struggle, without ever losing my faith in Greek justice, today justice has finally arrived. I thank everyone who stood by me throughout this process and who believed in me from the very beginning — in the principles I represent and the values I have fought for over so many years, to which I was, am, and will remain faithful, no matter the trials.”

The acquittal may reshape the political landscape surrounding Burhan’s role at the European level, although no official statements have yet been issued regarding his future political alignment.

Further developments are expected in the coming days.
