Independent MP Baran asks about the corn producers of Xanthi

Burhan Baran, Independent MP for Xanthi, addressed a question to the Minister of Agriculture and Development regarding the exclusion of corn producers in the plain region of Xanthi from the scope of the aid.

Drawing attention to the decrease in the agricultural products produced by the farmers affiliated to Topiros Municipality, Baran described the exclusion of especially corn producers from the "unified aid" as unfair and mentioned the livelihood difficulties of farming families and noted that producing people face serious economic problems.

Reminding that the Agricultural Compensation Institution OPEKEPE verbally said that the prefecture of Xanthi will also be included in the "combined aid" package, Baran stated that the aid is made according to geographical criteria and that the aid is provided to Sarisaban of Kavala, which borders the prefecture of Xanthi.

MP Baran considered it unfair that the corn producers of Topiros Municipality in Xanthi were deprived of the "unified aid" and noted that this region, which is important for the agricultural development of the region, should also be included in the aid.

Stating that the decrease in maize production will cause a chain reaction that may even lead to the collapse of the livestock sector, Baran asked the relevant minister

"What is the Ministry's financial support policy for maize crops? How is it planned to be extended to cover more land, including the municipality of Topiros?

What are the criteria for the selection of farms to be included in pooled payments and how can farmers ensure their participation?

Do you plan to take any action to redress the injustice against maize producers in Topiros Municipality?"
