Hakan Fidan: "We will follow up on resolving the issues of the Western Thrace Turkish Minority"
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan emphasized that addressing the issues of the Western Thrace Turkish Minority and the Turks residing in the Dodecanese Islands remains a priority in Türkiye's relations with Greece. Speaking at the Turkish Grand National Assembly’s Plan and Budget Committee during the presentation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ 2025 budget, Fidan underlined Turkey's commitment to these communities.
Fidan stated, "We act with the awareness that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is a fundamental part of our national security system. While countering threats, we also seize opportunities with our 360-degree foreign policy approach."
He highlighted efforts to foster positive dialogue with Greece and shared developments, including concrete steps taken during his November 8 visit to Athens. Fidan also announced that the 6th High-Level Cooperation Council Meeting will be held in Ankara in early 2025.
In addition, Fidan underscored Türkiye's unwavering defense of its rights in the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean and its proactive role in the Balkans, focusing on close engagement with Balkan Turkish communities to ensure their welfare.
He also discussed Türkiye's achievements within NATO, including enhanced cooperation in defense and the conclusion of its NATO Kosovo Force Command in October 2024. Turkey will host key NATO meetings in the coming years, further solidifying its role as a vital ally.
