Gümülcine Municipality launches 7th annual student recycling competition
The Gümülcine Municipality is once again organizing its traditional inter-school recycling competition to promote environmental awareness and encourage recycling habits from an early age. The event, titled “Let’s Recycle”, will be held for the seventh consecutive year.
The initiative is being carried out under the municipality’s environmental platform Followgreen, in collaboration with the Rhodope Primary and Secondary Education Directorates and East–West Greece.
Competition Details
As part of the campaign, participating schools will receive special recycling collection bins. Students will earn points by separately collecting recyclable materials such as:
- Paper
- Plastic
- Auminum
- Clothing and shoes
- Cooking oil
- Batteries
Parents are also encouraged to contribute by bringing recyclable materials from home to their children’s schools.
Awards Ceremony at the End of the School Year
At the end of the academic year, Komotini Municipality will host a special awards ceremony to honor the schools that collect the highest amount of recyclable materials.
The opening event of this year’s competition will take place on Thursday, October 23, at 11:00 a.m. at Komotini 9th Primary School.
Municipal officials emphasized that the goal of the initiative is not only to raise environmental awareness but also to make recycling a way of life for the younger generation.
