Gümülcine Mufti issues statement on “Three Months” and Regaip Night
In his statement, Mufti Şerif emphasized the profound religious importance of this period, beginning with Regaip Night, which heralds the commencement of the three months of Recep, Şaban, and ultimately Ramadan — a time traditionally associated with spiritual reflection, prayer, and repentance.
Addressing the Muslim community in Western Thrace, Şerif described Regaip Night as a night in which believers seek divine mercy and forgiveness through sincere prayer and devotion. He noted that the coming weeks offer a “precious opportunity” to strengthen faith, mend personal shortcomings, and renew commitments to both family and community obligations.
The mufti quoted Islamic teachings highlighting the significance of nights such as Regaip Night, when prayers are believed to be especially meritorious and forgiveness accessible to those who turn to God with humility.
Şerif also urged adherents to use this period to foster unity, compassion, and mutual goodwill. He called for reconciliation among estranged community members, care for the vulnerable — including orphans and the needy — and increased solidarity within families and neighborhoods.
To commemorate Regaip Night and deepen communal observance, the Gümülcine Mufti’s Office has announced a series of programs and events at several local mosques, including in Kır Mahalle, Eşekçili, Basırlıköy, Kozlukebir, Kara Kurcalı, Aşağıköy, and Mevsimler. These gatherings are intended to provide shared spaces for prayer, recitation, and spiritual engagement.
Concluding his message, Şerif extended his greetings and best wishes to the Muslim Turkish minority in Western Thrace, praying that the sacred three months and Regaip Night bring blessings to the wider Islamic world and inspire renewed devotion across the community.
