Gümülcine Children’s Festival draws crowds with vibrant celebrations in Western Thrace
The 10th annual Children’s Festival organized by the Women’s Branch of the GümülcineTurkish Youth Union (GTGB) brought a festive atmosphere to the city, attracting strong participation from children and families across Western Thrace.
Held on Saturday, April 25, in the GTGB garden, the event transformed the venue into a lively celebration space filled with games, performances, and cultural activities. Children engaged in a variety of interactive programs throughout the day, enjoying an environment designed to blend entertainment with community bonding.
Opening the event, Women’s Branch President Aslı Ali thanked attendees and contributors for their support in sustaining the long-standing tradition of the festival.
The program featured performances by the GTGB Children’s Choir, a traditional saz ensemble, and folk dance groups, all of which received enthusiastic applause from the audience. Dedicated play areas and activity stations further enhanced the experience, offering children a full day of enjoyment.
Among the attendees were Türkiye’s Consul General in Komotini Aykut Ünal and his spouse İlayda Ünal, Rodopi MP Özgür Ferhat, President of the Western Thrace Minority University Graduates Association Zeynep Tevfikoğlu, and GTGB President Sedat Hasan, alongside numerous families.
The annual festival continues to serve as a key cultural and social platform, reinforcing community ties while celebrating the heritage and identity of the Turkish minority in Western Thrace.
