General Secretary of Decentralized Administration of Macedonia–Thrace in İskeçe (Xanhti)
The new General Secretary of the Decentralized Administration of Macedonia and Thrace, Dimitris Galamatis, paid an official visit to İskeçe (Xanthi) Mayor Stratos Kondos on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, accompanied by his close associates. The meeting focused on coordinating the actions of the administration’s services and strengthening cooperation between the two sides.
This was part of Mr. Galamatis’ broader round of visits to the 60 mayors under his jurisdiction, including 22 in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace. He underlined that these visits are “not just courtesy calls, but working meetings”, stressing that the Decentralized Administration should serve as a bridge between local authorities and the central state.
Mr. Galamatis added that the main goal is to improve citizens’ quality of life by supporting municipalities in addressing both local and regional issues where the Decentralized Administration can intervene.
Mayor Kondos welcomed the General Secretary on his first official visit to İskeçe (Xanthi’s) City Hall, expressing confidence in a close and effective collaboration for the benefit of local residents.
Meeting with the Metropolitan
During his stay in İskeçe (Xanthi), Mr. Galamatis also visited the Metropolis of İskeçe (Xanthi), where he met with Metropolitan Panteleimon. The discussion focused on issues concerning the city of İskeçe (Xanthi) and the wider region of Thrace.
