French Consul General pays visit to Evros
Ms. Sandrine Mouchet, French Consul General in Thessaloniki and Director of the French Institute of Thessaloniki, was received in their offices by Alexandroupolis Mayor Yannis Zampoukis and Deputy Provincial President Dimitris Petrovic.
A visit to the Municipality of Alexandroupolis
The mayor informed the consul about the major projects being carried out in the region, such as the Eastern Ring Road, the modernization of the railway line with electrification and the privatization of the port, and noted that such an improvement of the transport infrastructure contributes to attracting Turkey.He emphasized the importance of all the actions taken for Alexandroupolis to maintain its status as a touristic destination.
It was stated that the French diplomat showed special interest in the presence of French Jews who chose Alexandroupoli as their place of residence for their summer holidays.In addition, it was stated that the possibilities of cooperation with the French Institute of Thessaloniki for the organization of cultural events such as the French Film Festival and cooperation possibilities such as taking action to promote and protect the identity of the French Alexandroupolis Station buildings.The Secretary General of the Municipality Yannis Bogdis was also present at the meeting. On the other hand, the Consul General of France was accompanied by the Honorary Consul of the East Macedonia and Thrace Region Marina Doulami.
MEETING WITH PETROVIC
French Consul in Thessaloniki, within the framework of her contacts in Alexandroupoli (Dedeağaç) also visited the Vice President of Evros (Meriç) Province Dimitris Petrovic in his office.
Petrovic gave brief information to the French Consul about the geopolitical position, gas networks, infrastructure improvements such as the electrification of the railway, the steps taken, and the projects implemented on issues such as the improvement of roads and the cleaning of roads in Evros (Meriç).
Reminding that the projects in question were financed and implemented by Eastern Macedonia and Thrace State, Petrovic also talked about the studies on tourism and entrepreneurship. Petrovic asked the French diplomat to assist in the arrival of French investments in the region.
The Vice-President of Evros, making special reference to the crisis in Evros, on the Greece-Turkey border two years ago, said that it was resolved with the direct intervention of the government. Petrovic stressed that additional measures have been taken to better protect the borders, which are the borders of the EU as well as Greece.
Consul Muse, on the other hand, thanked Petrovic for the meeting and noted that after the visit of the French Ambassador to the region, she would like to come back.
