Free internet access in indoor and outdoor spaces in Xanthi
Among the 267 municipalities of the country that will get free and fast internet access in open and closed public places, the Municipality of Xanthi.
267 municipalities of the country will get free and fast internet access in outdoor and indoor public places, as the three executive contracts for the project "WiFi4GR - Development of public wireless broadband access points" have been signed.
Specifically, the "WiFi4GR" project provides for the supply and installation of Access Points in almost 2,500 public places designated by the municipalities, such as public gathering places, waiting and moving areas, events and places of tourist and cultural interest.
As noted, this is a project of the Ministry of Digital Governance that will contribute to the development of broadband in our country, which is being implemented under the "Digital Transformation 2021-2027" programme, with a total budget of 11,887,096.77 euros plus VAT and implemented by the Special Service of the PSM programme.
In particular, the Ministry of Digital Governance signed the following three executive contracts:
With OTE S.A. executive contract amounting to 2.978.955,00 Euro plus VAT for the implementation of the project in 75 municipalities of the regions of Attica and Crete with the installation and support of WiFi hotspots in 775 areas.
With the Association of Companies "VODAFONE PANAFONE A.E.E.T. - COSMOS COMPUTERS A.E.B.E.", executive contract amounting to 3.065.985,00 Euro plus VAT, for the implementation of the project in 100 Municipalities of the Regions of South Aegean, Peloponnese, Western Greece, Central Greece and Thessaly with the installation and support of WiFi hotspots in 781 areas.
With NOVA M.A.E., executive contract amounting to 3.608.982,00 Euro plus VAT, for the implementation of the project in 92 Municipalities of the Regions of Western Macedonia, Central Macedonia, Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, Epirus, North Aegean and Ionian Islands with the installation and support of WiFi hotspots in 922 areas.
As stated by the Minister of Digital Governance, Dimitris Papastergiou, "the digital transition requires modern infrastructure throughout the country and for the benefit of all citizens. The government's goal is for Greece to make a leap towards the era of broadband. In the Ministry of Digital Governance we are working systematically in this direction, using all available financial tools, such as the resources of the NSRF 21-27. I believe that "WiFi4GR" is a project that can change the map of broadband in our towns and villages."
