Four Red Cross volunteers from Gümülcine honored for humanitarian mission in Venezuela
During a ceremony held on Friday, July 24, Regional Governor Christodoulos Topsidis presented plaques to Search and Rescue Team volunteers Savvas Kepelis, Eleni Barba, Hüseyin Sadık, and Anastasia Vasiliadou in recognition of their dedication and humanitarian efforts.
Topsidis praised the volunteers for their commitment to relief operations following the earthquake in Venezuela, highlighting their role in supporting emergency response efforts.
The ceremony emphasized that the volunteers used their professional knowledge, experience, and training in the first and only organized humanitarian mission from Greece to Venezuela, where they worked to help save lives.
Members of the Gümülcine Red Cross Search and Rescue Team contributed to search and rescue operations in earthquake-affected areas, assisting efforts to locate people trapped under collapsed buildings.
The volunteers also took part in providing healthcare and humanitarian assistance to earthquake survivors living in temporary shelters.
