Mustafa Şentop, former Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye (TBMM), carried out a series of meetings in Western Thrace together with an accompanying delegation.

Following programs attended in North Macedonia, Şentop and his delegation stopped in Western Thrace on their return journey, where they met with Turkish institutions and representatives in the region.

The first stop of the visit was İskeçe. Şentop visited the İskeçe Mufti’s Office together with Mustafa Trampa, President of the Western Thrace Turkish Minority Advisory Board and Mufti of İskeçe. During the meeting with mufti officials and religious functionaries, Şentop emphasized Türkiye’s continued support for the Turks of Western Thrace, stating:

“On our return from North Macedonia, we turned our route toward Western Thrace, a precious part of our spiritual geography. Türkiye’s heart always beats together with the Turkish presence in Western Thrace. The steadfast stance of our compatriots is our strength.”

After the İskeçe visit, the delegation traveled to Komotini, where they paid a courtesy visit to Türkiye’s Consul General in Gümülcine, Aykut Ünal. Discussions focused on the current situation of the Turks of Western Thrace, minority rights, and ongoing activities in the region. Şentop underlined that the Republic of Türkiye remains, under all circumstances, the strongest guarantor of the Turkish minority in Western Thrace.

Şentop and his delegation later visited the headquarters of the Friendship, Equality, Peace (FEP) Party, the political representative of the Turkish minority in Western Thrace. During the meeting with Party President Çiğdem Asafoğlu and party officials, discussions centered on the struggle for rights carried out by the FEP Party, regarded as the legacy of the late Dr. Sadık Ahmet. Şentop stated that Türkiye stands firmly alongside the Turks of Western Thrace and their political representatives in their determined efforts to protect their identity and rights.
