Flame of love ceremony lights up İskeçe’s central square
A heartwarming event took place this afternoon in İskeçe, as the closing ceremony of the Flame of Love torch relay was held in the city’s central square, marking the opening of the 35th Amphictyony of Volunteer Blood Donors.
The Flame Altar in the square was lit by Olympic champion Katerina Thanou, local sprint champion Angelos Pavlakakis, and young track and field athlete Stella Orfanidi, representing the new generation of İskeçe sports.
The parallel program in the square featured performances by several cultural and dance groups, including:
The İskeçe Dance Club,
The Pontic Association of İskeçe,
The Pontic Dancers Association “Trantellenes”,
The Koyunköy Cultural Association “Ampheraos”,
The Mandra Cultural Association,
The İskeçe Association of Cantors “Gregory the Protopsaltes”, and
The Municipal Philharmonic Orchestra of İskeçe.
The event also included a touching surprise prepared by Giannis Papachronis, president of the İskeçe Volunteer Blood Donors Association, featuring children from the Kentavros club, who sang songs dedicated to blood donation.
The ceremony blended athletic spirit, cultural pride, and community solidarity—celebrating the enduring message of love and giving through volunteer blood donation.
