First statement from Karastavrou after removal from Deputy Mayor Position!

"Mr. Garanis' decision will be assessed based on the outcomes over time."
Dimitris Karastavrou, who was removed from his position as Deputy Mayor of Gümülcine by Mayor Yannis Garanis, made his first public statement on Friday morning regarding the developments.
Karastavrou, who had been serving as the Deputy Mayor responsible for Public Works, Planning, Urban Planning, and Spatial Planning at Gümülcine Municipality, commented on the decision, stating: “Mr. Garanis’ decision will be assessed based on the outcomes over time.”
In his statement, Karastavrou briefly summarized his political career since 2011, emphasizing that during this period, he acted with "ethics and dignity, respecting the citizens, and always prioritizing the interests of the city." He expressed pride in his contributions and criticized the municipal administration for not informing him in advance about his dismissal.
Directing his criticism at Mayor Garanis and pointing to political tactics, Karastavrou affirmed that he would continue serving as a Municipal Councilor, stating: "I will continue to work and contribute with the same dedication as before."
Karastavrou’s Full Statement:
*"Since 2011, first as President of DEYAK and later, since 2019, as Deputy Mayor responsible for Technical Affairs, I have served the city of Gümülcine and its citizens in demanding and responsible positions. During this time, I have always acted with ethics and dignity, respecting the citizens, and prioritizing the city’s interests—never for personal gain or political strategies. I believe I have earned the respect of my colleagues, political opponents, and most importantly, the trust of the citizens.
At both DEYAK and the Municipality, I take pride in the tangible and measurable results achieved through millions of euros’ worth of projects—designed and signed under my leadership—either completed, currently under construction, or planned for the near future.
Mr. Garanis’ decision to remove me from my position as Deputy Mayor of Technical Affairs, conveyed to me via email without prior notice, will be evaluated over time based on its consequences. Moreover, every mayor, by virtue of their position, bears political responsibility for their decisions and must make them not based on political tactics but always in the best interests of the city.
Personally, I have always advocated for unity, despite any disagreements, for the good of the Municipality. The upcoming period is particularly crucial for planning and submitting proposals for new development projects that Gümülcine needs—there is still much to be done.
As a Municipal Councilor, I will continue working with the same dedication as before, striving to contribute to the city’s progress with all my strength."
