Film screening on gold mining in Northern Greece to take place in Gümülcine
The Inter-Regional Committee of Rhodope–Evros against Gold Mining and Metallurgy, together with the Ecological Group of Rhodope, will host an event in Komotini on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at 20:30. The event will feature the screening of films highlighting the controversial issue of gold mining in Northern Greece.
The program includes:
The documentary “Greedy Profit” (Άπληστον κέρδος, 70 minutes) by the late filmmaker and activist Yiannis Karypidis, which was awarded at the Thessaloniki Film Festival in 2013.
The premiere screening of the videoclip “Orpheus of the Zonians” (Ορφέας των Ζωναίων) by creator Christos Chatzopoulos.
As part of the evening, former presidents of the Technical Chamber of Greece (TEE) – Thrace branch, Stavros Tsagos and Nikos Papathanasiou, will be honored for their contribution to the struggle against gold mining and metallurgy in the region.
