FEP Party: We will shout injustice, we will fight racism
FEP Party made a statement about the case regarding the raid of the event held in Athens in 2016 by the MPs and members of the criminal organization Golden Dawn.
The case filed against MPs and members of the criminal organization Golden Down for raiding the event "National Minorities in Greece and the Recommendations of International Organizations" in Athens in 2016 is still ongoing. The hearing on April 1, 2022 was postponed to October 7, 2022.
On April 1, 2022, the FEP Party demanded that the witnesses also take part in the hearing (to testify) based on the law clearly stated that "In addition to the evidence collected during the interrogation, new witnesses and other evidence may be presented to the hearing". However, the written request was rejected by the prosecutor without any reason and the hearing was adjourned to a new date.
On the subject, the Friendship Equality Peace Party issued a written statement. “We declare to the country and the world opinion that we will continue to shout with determination and without fear about the injustices faced by the minority, and that we will continue to fight racism without abandoning democracy and the rule of law." characteristically was noted by the party. The statement is as follows:
PRESS BRIEFING
The Friendship, Equality and Peace (FEP) Party and the Helsinki Human Rights Watch held an event in the Conference Hall of the Athens Union of Journalists on December 12, 2016, two days after World Human Rights Day, on the theme "Recommendations of National Minorities and International Organizations in Greece."
Four MPs and sympathizers of the racist Golden Dawn Party bullied the event, which was moderated by Nafsika Papanikolatu, Representative of the Greek Minority Rights Group, and former FEP Party Chairman Mustafa Ali Cavus was threatened with death, while other participants were insulted and threatened.
The Golden Down MPs and other members of the party of this period, attacked the hall and shouted unspeakable insults to the Muslim Turkish Minority in Western Thrace and our identity. This heinous attack, which damaged our country's democratic discussion environment, caused damage on human rights and freedoms. Despite the fact that the state security units in Athens, our country's capital, have been notified in advance and have stated that they will take the necessary measures, assaulting a conference and exposing the Chairman of an official political party to threats and insults the participants is not acceptable.
After this attack, a criminal complaint was filed against the members of the raiding group and they were demanded to be held accountable before the justice for their hideous attacks. At first, this case was shelved and the attackers were described as unsolved. Despite this illogical practice, we made an effort to prosecute the perpetrators after great efforts. The hearing, which was held on December 21, 2021, was adjourned to April 1, 2022. Based on the law, "In addition to the evidence collected during the interrogation, new witnesses and other evidence may be presented to the hearing", we requested the witnesses to take part in the hearing (to testify) for the hearing on April 1st. This written request was rejected by the prosecutor without any reason, and finally, the hearing was postponed to October 17, 2022. Ioannis Lagos, one of the members of the Golden Dawn who attacked, was also prevented from being present at the hearing by the Supreme Court, and the reason for the blocking was not disclosed to our ex-president, who was involved in the case. It was not democratically appropriate to prevent witnesses from testifying at the trial. In addition, it is unacceptable that the case file, which was shelved after the attack, was removed from the shelf after great efforts, over a long period of time such as 2 years. FEP Party is determined to be the voice of the Western Thrace Muslim Turkish Minority and all citizens who have been subjected to injustice, oppression and discrimination in every platform and to seek their rights. We announce to the public opinion of the country and the whole world that we will continue to shout about the injustices we have suffered at all costs, without getting tired, without fear and with determination, and that we will continue to fight against racism without abandoning democracy and law.
