FEP Party: “We demand the abandonment of intimidation policies!”

The FEP Party reacted to the Xanthi Prosecutor's Office launching an investigation after 7 months regarding the Xanthi Turkish Union’s march.

In the statement made by the Friendship Equality Peace Party, it was stated that the launch of an investigation into this march, organized by the Xanthi Turkish Union to protest the non-implementation of the decisions of the ECtHR within a democratic framework, was met with surprise.

"Our country should stop seeing the minority as a threat and should abandon its policies of intimidation against the Western Thrace Muslim Turkish Minority, one of the most docile minority, and realize that the minority seeks to benefit rather than harm its country," the statement said.

The DEB Party's statement is as follows:

“Exactly 7 months ago, on July 10, 2021, we gave full support to the march organized by the Xanthi Turkish Union to protest the ECHR decisions that were not implemented, together with our party executives and members.

We have learned with great surprise that an investigation was launched 7 months later about this march, organized by the Xanthi Turkish Union, which has been fighting for its rights for 39 years, within a democratic framework.

Although it is claimed that there were provocative speeches in this march, where we protested the decisions that were justified by the ECHR decision for 14 years, but that our country Greece insisted on not implementing, this does not reflect the truth.

Contrary to the march held in the name of the just cause of the Xanthi Turkish Union, democracy, fairness and human rights were emphasized and slogans were shouted for the implementation of the decisions made.

The fact that an investigation has been launched in addition to the Xanthi Turkish Union, which has been waiting for positive steps to be taken for the implementation of the ECHR judgments and has suffered a great injury and been wronged in this direction, is unwarranted and unnecessary. We would like to point out that, in this process and always, our support will be endless for the Xanthi Turkish Union to seek rights.

Our country should stop seeing the minority as a threat and should abandon its policies of intimidation against one of the most docile minorities, the Western Thrace Muslim Turkish Minority, and realize that the minority seeks to gain more benefit than harm for its country.”
