The Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace has secured the continued operation of the Gümülcne (Komotini) Women’s Counselling Centre, using European Social Fund resources to support women in need, regional authorities said.

Regional Governor Christodoulos Topsidis signed an amendment extending the centre’s operation until Dec. 31, 2026, under the “Eastern Macedonia–Thrace 2021–2027” programme. The move increases the project’s total budget to 341,637 euros.

The Gümülcne (Komotini) centre, operated by the Research Centre for Gender Equality (KETHI), provides frontline services for the prevention and response to gender-based violence and discrimination. It offers free psychosocial and legal support to women who have experienced violence, while also carrying out awareness-raising activities in the local community.

“Protecting women from violence and discrimination is a matter of dignity and humanity,” Topsidis said, adding that the extension sends a clear message that “no woman is alone.”
