Erdoğan meet with Mitsotakis: We wanted to overcome the problems related to Western Thrace
Turkish President Erdoğan answered the questions of journalists after leaving the Hz. Ali Mosque in Üsküdar, where he performed Friday prayers.
Erdoğan was reminded of Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis' remarks that "I think we all agree that it is better to live as civilised neighbours, friends, rather than being constantly on alert", referring to relations with Türkiye, and upon the question "How do you see Greece-Türkiye relations after these statements and the meeting at the NATO Summit?", Erdoğan stated the following:

"Of course, we are two neighbouring countries. Our historical background is known. We do not want this process to go on like this. In this regard, Mr Mitsotakis has had a new election, we have had a new election in the same way. As leaders who have won two elections, we want to take our steps in a positive direction. Of course, the most important topics that I especially asked from them are the problems related to Western Thrace. We wanted to overcome them, and then the issue of muftis. We wanted to overcome these. At the moment, especially our ambassadors will make preliminary preparations with mutual meetings on this issue. Our Foreign Ministers will make preliminary preparations. Then we will come together as leaders and take the necessary steps.
