Elderly man swept away while trying to cross river by tractor in Muratlı Village
An 80-year-old member of the local Turkish community was swept away by strong currents while attempting to cross a river with his tractor in Muratlı village, in the Rhodope regional unit.
Following the incident, no contact has been established with the elderly man, while search and rescue operations are ongoing in the area.
According to information obtained, the water level rose suddenly, causing the tractor driven by the elderly man to be caught in a powerful current. It was reported that both the tractor and its driver were dragged away and disappeared from sight within a short time.
Emergency teams dispatched to the scene are continuing search efforts along the riverbed. Authorities stated that the high water flow and strong currents are making the operation difficult.
Officials also recalled that prior warnings had been issued about flood risks, once again urging citizens to avoid crossing streams and rivers.
